Kushinagar, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world, will host the International Buddhist Conclave 2026 from March 31 to April 2 at the Mahaparinirvana Temple complex. The event is expected to draw Buddhist monks, scholars, and delegates from several countries.

The conclave aims to promote Buddhist heritage, strengthen cultural ties, and position Uttar Pradesh as a key destination on the global tourism map. Kushinagar holds deep religious significance as the place where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana, attracting pilgrims from countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, and Nepal.

Global Participation Expected

Officials said the three-day event will include spiritual discussions, academic sessions, and cultural exchanges involving international participants. The conclave is part of ongoing efforts to boost India’s cultural diplomacy and promote the Buddhist circuit.

Cultural Programs Announced

Alongside the formal sessions, organizers have planned a series of cultural evenings open to delegates and visitors.

  • On April 1 at 8:30 PM, a Bhojpuri Night will feature singer Ritesh Pandey.
  • On April 2 at 8:30 PM, noted singer and Padma Shri awardee Kailash Kher will perform live.

These performances are expected to add a cultural dimension to the conclave, showcasing both regional and national musical traditions.

Administrative Preparations Underway

Local authorities have begun large-scale preparations for the event. Officials are focusing on security, healthcare services, sanitation, transportation, and accommodation for domestic and international guests. Special teams have been assigned to manage logistics and hospitality.

Boost to Tourism

The conclave is expected to significantly boost tourism in the region, particularly within the Buddhist circuit that includes Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, and Lumbini. Officials believe the event will enhance Kushinagar’s global visibility as a center of spirituality and peace.
